The Bored Horse🐴 – Issue #7

Hey. How are you? I’m slowly getting back on my feet, after a couple of pretty rough weeks. Those sniffles I mentioned? Well, it never really went away. Pair that with a lot of looming deadlines for client work, and people being generally sick all over, and you get a pretty stressful environment. Not that I’m complaining, because there are people who have it a lot worse, thanks to the asshats of the world.
Anyway, that’s why there wasn’t any newsletter last week. I almost didn’t send on this week either, it feels a bit moot with what’s going on in the world, but I decided against it in the end, obviously.
So, here we are, dear horsies. Let’s get to it, shall we?

Linkage
🇺🇦 NiemanLab has a list of sources to follow the war in Ukraine.
📬 Want to write a letter to Vladimir Putin, to tell him what you think? Sign it like this, maybe?
🤪 Working at Meta? Well, then you’re a “metamate”. I feel sorry for you.
🔠 Wordle is now on New York Times. Want more? Worldle is about geography, Squabble is a battle royale take on the concept, and Lordle wants you to figure out names from The Lord of the Rings.
🐶 A guide on how to throw a party in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, because that’s apparently still a thing since this two year old piece got brushed up for 2022.
🎮 Speaking of games, if you’re lucky enough to get a Steam Deck, you can check what games in your Steam library will actually work on the thing. Spoiler: Not all of then.
🪐 NASA took photos of Venus’s surface, and that’s obviously cool.
🚀 Speaking of space, let’s use lasers to get to Mars in 45 days or so. This one’s interesting, but a little dry.
✨ Have you seen Inventing Anna on Netflix? It was okay, I guess. NYT has an interview with Anna Sorokin, who made a bundle on the show.
📺 More TV to watch in the future: Ridley Scott backed shows in the Alien and Blade Runner universes, respectively. The latter could be cool, and it reminds me that I really should watch the Blade Runner: Black Lotus anime.
⌨️ The Penkesu Computer is really cool, and I want one.
🤥 The UK tax authority has seized three NFTs, because there are laws, and the shit will hit the fan on this, sooner or later.
🧠 There might already be a conscious AI (or AGI, rather), according to Ilya Sutskever of the OpenAI research group.
I have a lot more, having missed a week and all, but I’ll stop there. Let’s look what Elon Musk has been up to, the never-ending pinnacle of taste and class… 👇🏻
Sleeping Giants
Imagine any other CEO of a public company tweeting this and everyone shrugging it off. https://t.co/xJIQUWFT7a
Yeah, fuck that guy.
That’s it for linkage this week. I’ll post it on Bored Horse for posterity on Monday. Last week’s linkage is up, in case you missed it.
🔗 Want to get featured? Tweet (or DM) your link to @tdh, and you might end up in a future issue of this very newsletter. Such honor, much wow.
Happy belated birthday, handsome! Nine years yesterday. 🥂

This week on Bored Horse
I didn’t write anything last week, not even the newsletter, as you might’ve noticed. This week, I managed just one little thing.
All is not well
Let’s hope next week’s better, shall we? I did read a book, though.
A Psalm for the Wild Built by Becky Chambers
A Psalm for the Wild Built by Becky Chambers
A Psalm for the Wild Built by Becky Chambers, probably better know for her excellent Wayfarers series, was nice. It’s quite different from the Wayfarers books, without any real action or antagonists, but I enjoyed it.
That's it for this week
I honestly can’t wait for this week to end. It’s been rough, just like last week was, and I need the rest. A lot of us do, I’d imagine, given how much energy is being sucked out of us from the world right now.
Stay safe, wherever you are, and I’ll speak to you shortly.
